Finding Balance in the Studio

It is 41 degrees today and as I was out on a run this morning, the sun was hitting my face and my eyes were confused and didn’t know how to adjust; it felt amazing. Blogging is new to me, I am usually one to keep my thoughts to myself. I have to say, it has been liberating to have a place to put my thoughts. When I am in the studio working, all sorts of things go through my mind that need a space to be sorted out. I suppose making art in itself is a process for me to let out some of these thoughts. I have decided that in order to be really productive in the studio and produce consistent work, I need a studio schedule that I can stick to. Sticking to schedules is tough for me for a lot of reasons. The main ones are ADHD, 3 children who’s needs are demanding, keeping my home in order with laundry, groceries etc. and trying to still make time to stay fit. I’ve decided to be in the studio 5 days a week when possible, working in 3 to 4 hour shifts. Saturdays at Northrup King (the building my studio is in), are open studio days with hours advertised to the public. I try to go in every Saturday to work, usually from 9:30-2-ish. It feels good to write this down, it makes it feel like more of a commitment to myself.

On another note, I have become a member of a small gallery in Robbinsdale called the Robin Gallery. They have a show coming up next month for members only called March Madness and I’ll be entering a few pieces. Can’t wait to be involved in another show and see work from other artists in my community as well.

Cheers,

-Cara Jo
